Rachel M. Thompson

I am a writer, mother, and geek–not necessarily in that order–living just outside of Austin, TX. I write short fiction to maintain my sanity while working on novel length manuscripts, with debatable results. My boys keep me busy, whether I’m refereeing a wrestling match or acting as a human jungle gym. When I’m not buried at the bottom of an endless pile of laundry, I might be found doing something crafty or poking around halfheartedly in the garden. Or possibly debating the relative merits of Batman and Superman with my husband.

Oh yeah, I went there.

On Writing…
I have claimed that Escape is one of the main functions of fairy-stories, and since I do not disapprove of them, it is plain that I do not accept the tone of scorn or pity with which 'Escape' is now so often used. Why should a man be scorned if, finding himself in prison, he tries to get out and go home? Or if he cannot do so, he thinks and talks about other topics than jailers and prison-walls?~J.R.R. Tolkien
